Center Line Theory

The all-important Centre-line is created by connecting your centre-point with your opponents centre-point. Each centre-point is located at the intersection of the Vertical Mid-line and the Horizontal Mid-line of the body.

The Centre-line will only be horizontal when facing an opponent of equal size. If the opponent is taller the Centre-line would be angled upwards (as the two fighters centre-points are linked) and your guard position would change accordingly. Conversely if the opponent is shorter your Centre-line & guard would be angled downwards to match.

Controlling the Centre-line is the first priority of the Wing Tzun fighter. Once this goal has been achieved then an attack or counterattack may be mounted at any viable target along the Vertical Mid-line. Depending on the position & configuration of each fighters limbs, some targets may be more accessible or desirable than others.
