Chi Gerk
Chi Gerk
-

Wing
Tzun Chi-Gerk, or sticky leg, develops the
same sensitivity in the leg that chi-sao
does in the hand.
With Chi-Gerk training the students learns to apply the attributes they have
acquired through the tactile sensitivity training in the legs to any realistic fighting
situations encountered. This is the development of sensitivity to force or
pressure, muscle memory and reflex self-defense as well.
Why Chi-Gerk Training?
Chi-Gerk training teaches the student to:
-
break the opponent's balance and
stick to him so that he can not attack and attack the opponent with all free
limes.
-
develop balance and strength in the
legs.
-
develop a sense of feeling /
Sensitivity in the legs like Chi-Sao dose for the arms.
-
develop intercepting skills, forward
pressure, swept opened or kicking if there is an opening and footwork going
forward and defending the leg with a leg.
-
When training Chi-Gerk in a active
and free way there is also a stress and fatigue factor involved, like in a real
situation which helps condition the legs a well.
Just like the arms for Chi-Sao the
ankle is like the wrist, the knee is like the elbow, and the hip is like the
shoulder. In the legs the center point is the knee. The concepts of the method
of Chi-Gerk training Is not new, it has always bin a part of the Wing Tzun
system.
In the beginning the student starts learning exercises like Leg Attack, Leg
Defenses and Leg Counter Attacks against kicks.
At the intermediate level the student learns Drills like Jut-Gerk, Bong-Gerk,
and Huen-Gerk at the same time the students hands are Attacking, defending and
counter attacking.
The student should be able defend him self from kicks from any angle and find
openings with his hands or his legs as well. By this level the student can train
with there hands and legs (Chi-Sao & Chi-Gerk) in a free and active way and also
the student trains Chi-Gerk drills on the
ground as well.
At the higher TG levels the student will learn sets of sections with Chi-Sao and
Chi-Gerk and also
Wooden Dummy sets of sections that teach the advanced Chi-Gerk training leg
maneuvers.
At Master levels there are the most advance training with the three pole dummy
which is with three poles staked in the ground also there is the six plum
blossom poles training as well.
Chi Gerk is a method of training not
a way of fighting!
