Ground Fighting

In a real self-defense-situation rules of fairness (which could alter the outcome of a fight ) don't exist! That is why in Wing Tzun (WT) we derive from that the consequent importance of a training that is as full and complete as possible, and which acknowledges all of the five distances that are part of the fighting-situation.

We want to differentiate Ground Fighting from sports grappling. Wing Tzun is focus on street fighting where everything goes and not on submissions. In a real street fight there are five different ranges or distances which are:

  1. Fighting at Kicking distance
  2. Fighting at Punching distance
  3. Fighting at knees and elbowsdistance
  4. Holding, barring and throwing distance
  5. Ground Fighting distance

The transition of a real fight can start or end in any range of distance. At our school we have programs that teach our students how to deal with attacks from all distance.

In a real attack there is no rules.

The attacker could be bigger stronger and A skilled, street wise mugger, rapist or mentally deranged thug, can come blasting in at you with unfamiliar attacks or moves. Before you know it you’re down on the pavement being stomped into unconsciousness by some jerk that could care less about you or your family, never mind the value of a human life. Or two or three people kicking an innocent bystander on the ground just because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. How about a Women being attacked by a rapist, and he has her mounted on the ground. there is no such thing as fair fight, all the scenarios are extremely frightening and very real.

Environment plays a big part in a attack that ends on the ground. You could end up rolling around on sharp glass, rocks, one foot of snow or mud, who knows what? This is all very real so we have to look at things with an open mind and think of the reality.

Wing Tzun is a systems that relates to the real world.
At our school student learns to apply the Wing Tzun principles, concepts and tactics & strategy to a variety of self-defense situations and fighting on the ground is one of them.
We begins as a two-person drill that perfects the students' abilities to deal with the various
simple set of drill against the most common scenarios like
Holds, bars, throw
and strikes on the ground. In our ground fighting ( anti-grappling) program we also use sensitivity method or training for our hands and legs (Chi-Sao &
Chi-Gerk) which are the heart and soul of our Wing Tzun system.

We are a proud branch of EBMAS.
