Great Interview with GM Latosa

Latosa Escrima Drills for Thursday
Strikes 1-5:
1.With feet together
2.With same side lead
3.With reverse lead
4.Advancing
5.retreating
Points to remember when doing this drill:

Balance, short power coming from the body of mass, hands first then body follows
and weapon always in front of your body, focus visualizing an attacker or a target, forward pressure, alive shielding arm, head movement, falling steps, attitude, transition with long, short, light, heavy, one hand, two hands, with weapons and hands, off timing, zoning, anatomical
weapons. Be creative with this drill and if you have a mirror it would help.

LES Today

Sifu Edgar doing coordination drills with the guys.

Wing Tzun coordination and balance drill:
One legged Siu-Nim-Tao form
Start by getting into the character two (adduction stance).  Lift one leg no lower than knee level high and in Jap-Gerk position.
Slowly and very relaxed perform the Siu-Nim-Tao form.
Always remember proper breathing, impetus from elbow, knee inward
pressure, hips forward, upper body relaxed and fully retracted.

First do the form starting with the right leg and then the left, do the form tree times on each leg.

Anyone interested in meeting up to practice at 5:30p today at the LES park?  Let us know in the comments if you're going to come.

Looks like we'll be meeting at Columbus Circle instead.  Be there or be square.  Call Edgar's cell phone if you're looking for us.

Figure Eight's

Sifu Edgar showing us how it's done in Sunday Class

Latosa Escrima Drills

Single Stick Figure Eight Drills:
Practice the 1 & 2 strike in figure eights,
breaking up the timing and stepping forward with your right leg.
Then practice the 3 & 4 strike movements of the figure eight, breaking up the timing by suppressing one of the hits and stepping forward with your right leg.
Then do the same drills moving forward and backwards.
Then do the same drill with as above with reverse figure eight hits.
Last mix them all at full speed.
