Latosa Escrima Seminar with GM Latosa
We will be hosting the final Latosa Escrima seminar with GM Rene Latosa for the year on Sunday October 11th, 2009 at the Way of Action (316 7th Street, Brooklyn NY) from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
The seminar will cost $100. For those students who are interested in testing, testing fees are $20 for levels 1-5 and $40 for levels 6+.
This seminar is open to everybody regardless of skill level!

Many times students, instructors, and curious minds discuss and compare the specifics of martial arts styles, instructor reputations and the popularity of martial arts. In reality, these discussions should be focused on the benefits of learning martial arts. The Filipino Martial Arts Concepts (FMA) specifically - Latosa Escrima focuses on you working at your own capacity during seminars or classes. The FMA Concepts facilitate critical thinking and provide the basic understanding of self-defense. An important benefit of the FMA Concepts is the seamless crossover training into all martial art styles as well as into your own lifestyle. This system does not emphasize being the ultimate, the deadliest, or the mother of all martial arts. Instead the FMA Concepts focus on guiding you and providing you with the tools designed to help you rediscover and reinvent what you already know.
As a novice martial artist you will gain the knowledge of “connection.” You will learn to connect all parts of your body in order to reach your objective; whether the objective is defending yourself, reaching a higher level of martial arts, or refining your movement to achieve excellence. The main focus is learning to think creatively through applying logical tools.
As an intermediate student, you will learn how to use these tools to enhance what you already do well. You will have the freedom to explore other avenues while expressing your own individuality. You will learn how to multitask without the risk of opening yourself up to weaknesses. You will learn the discipline of focusing on reality and explore the connection between the environment and interpersonal interactions.
As an advanced martial artist you will have an opportunity to achieve the greatest benefit. You already have the knowledge and experience. Through learning these concepts you will be able to rediscover and enhance your abilities to a higher level. You will reignite your passion for being creative, learning, and teaching.
These seminars are designed to provide an individual or an instructor with simple tools to make creative and innovative discoveries within your own skill level. There will not be any sterile or fancy drills designed just to keep you busy. Instead there will be thought provoking questions and tools to help you discover the connection between your mind and body.
